Leadership is neither person-management nor team-building — although to follow through a leader may need to access those skills. Leadership is not risk assessment — although to convince others a leader may need to sharply and accurately define both upside and downside risks. Leadership is not confidence, and it is not charisma — despite these both being frequent misapprehensions and deep-seated cognitive biases. Leadership is, simply, recognizing that a threshold exists, along with seeing and clearly communicating what’s on the other side.
